In Nigeria, the name Adebayo Ogunlesi does not ring a bell like the Dangotes, Adenuga, Otedola, e.t.c.


Adebayo Ogunlesi  was born on December 20, 1953 (age 73) hails from  Makun, Sagamu, Ogun state, Nigeria. Bayo was born into the family of Theophilus O. Ogunlesi, the first Nigeria professor of Medcine at University Ibadan.

He started his primary Education at King's college, Lagos. He received. a B.A. with first class honour in Philosophy, Politics, and Economy from Oxford University in England. In 1979.

Adebayo is a Nigerian lawyer and investment banker. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association. He was a lecturer at Harvard Law School.

In july 2006, Ogunlesi started the private equity firm, Global Infrastructure  Partners (GIP). a joint venture whose initial investors includes Credit Suisse and General Electric. He currently serve as the Chairman and Managing Partner at he firm.

GIP invests in infrastructure businesses with assets in energy, transportation,  water and waste sectors.

In 2006, GIP bought  London City Airport 

London City Airport is an International Airport  in London, England. It is located near Crawley, West Sussex, England.

Gatwick Airport was initially owned by the British Airports Authority (BAA), until 2009 when GIP finally  acquired the majority share in London Gatwick Airport in a deal worth £1.445 billion. GIP also owns Edinburgh Aiport, which they bought in 2012 and Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori, which they bought in Feburary  2018.

In December 2016,  Adebayo Ogunlesi name was among the  Donald Trump's strategic and policy forum with other business leaders which was disbanded  on Aug. 16, 2017.

Adebayo got an award of honour by the fedral government of Nigeria with the Comander of the order of Niger (CON). In his song titled "Wonderful'," Burna Boy praise Ogunlesi for his hard work.

Adebayo Ogunlesi got marred to British born Optometrist Dr. Amella Quist Ogunlesi in 1985. They are happily blessed with  two Children 

The next time you travelled through Gatwick Airport and Edinburgh Aiport, known it's an African who owns the Airport, a Nigerian by the name Adebayo Ogunlesi.
